ATTENTION: PLAYERS WANTED!!!

Do you enjoy playing baseball and love the history of the game?   Is that softball league you're in just not cutting it as far as "real" baseball goes?   Do you still want to play base ball but you've lost a step or can't hit the curve anymore?   Well you don't have to be a softball all-star or an ex-professional baseball player to play on the Eclipse.

We only have a few requirements.   One, that you be eighteen or older; and two, that you enjoy the history of the game!   Our players are of all abilities and ages from 23 to 53.   The great thing about vintage base ball though, is that you don't need to be 20 years old and in the prime condition of your life!   In the 1860s the hurler (pitcher) would throw the ball so that striker (the batter) would put it in play.   The spit ball or even the curve ball had not yet been invented.   You won't see any 80 mph throwers out there either.   You don't have to be a power hitter either.   While it helps in some situations, for the most part, the 19 th century game was about putting the ball in play and hitting it where the fielders weren't.   It will take some time to learn the 19 th century skills, but once you start to perfect them, you will never go back to softball again!   If you want to participate, but just don't feel like you can play, we still need you....

A FEW GOOD MEN WANTED

The Elkton Base Ball Club is looking for a few people who would like to be trained in the art of 19 th century base ball arbitration (yes umpires!).   It was typical in the 1860s to have the town clergyman umpire matches between clubs.   This was because he was thought to be the most honest man in town!   You don't have to be a "man of the cloth" to be one of our umpires...you just have to agree to wear the clothing of a 19 th century gentleman.   You will be taught all the rules ahead of time and well trained.   Don't worry if you don't make the right call--players are not allowed by custom to ever question anything you do.   You don't even have to call every ball and strike if you don't want.   You don't even stand right behind the plate.   Peculiar?   By today's standards yes, but you are the supreme ruler in the 19 th century.   You even have the ability to fine players and the fans right on the spot a quarter for inappropriate behavior, rough play, or cursing.   Miss a call? Just ask one of the players or a fan in the stands for help!

EVENT ORGANIZERS

Still can't interest you on an on the field job?   How about a behind the scenes job in our front office.   We're looking for people to help us coordinate the concession sales, put together programs, make sure we know where we're going on road trips, and so much more.   Each home match is a unique event and we need people to help us plan, organize and execute each game.   If you are interested in helping out, we can find something for you!
